My thoughts and techniques
This is a picture of me last century. Way, way last century. I have always been interested or drawn to massage therapy but not that far back.
If you have waded this far into the web you must have some interest or curiosity about massage. There are many types of body works and in those types are the individual styles of the therapist themselves. A good friend of mine that is a massage therapist insisted that I mention my style as a nurturing, calming style. That is why it is difficult for me to give 30 minute sessions. My sessions are longer than the basic hour. Some of the types are : Swedish Chair Massage Neuromuscular Trager Method Deep Tissue Herbal Wrap Myofacial Sports Massage Body exfoliation Infant Massage Reiki Craniosacral Therapy The Feldenkrais Method Lomi Lomi Stone Therapy Aromatherapy Shiatsu Manual Lymphatic Drainage Pregnancy Gero-Massage I am sure there are other techniques which I have not heard of or been introduced to. A therapist can not know or be proficient in every technique of body work so he or she must pick out their own interests. Some people prefer a female therapist; I know that I do. I have chronic back pain and I am currently battling fibromylgia, and sometimes a female therapist has a lighter touch. I use Demon Ogle and her telephone number is 318-481-0519. Swedish massage is the most common type of body work and the basic type which is taught in most massage schools. In giving Swedish massage I frequently incorporate hot stone usage. It is soothing to the client as well as to myself. Shiatsu is a wonderful alternative if you are shy about the Swedish style of massage. Shiatsu is a Japanese Acupressure art of balancing the body for structural integration and muscular tension release. When receiving a Shiatsu massage it is best to wear some type of loose clothing such as a jogging suit or hospital scrubs. Quite by accident did I find that I enjoyed pregnancy massage. In my opinion It is certainly a type of body work most performed by a female therapist. Only after giving a pregnancy massage in my training did I see for myself the benefit to the tired, exhausted, client. On December 12th, 2002 a friend of mine gave me the honor of assisting in the birth of her baby girl. It was one of the most cherished, defining moments of my life. I believe that massage can help in many ways including as an intergative part of medicine, but laughter is still the best medicine.
