Rosemary Mott formed Collegiate
Guardians after twenty years of caring for overseas
students as a guardian herself.
Such has been the demand for suitable
guardian families for children coming to school in the
UK that
she decided to build on her good reputation with a
number of Independent Schools to form an Agency to act
on behalf of the children and parents of overseas
families. Thus Collegiate Guardians was formed
to:
1) Select
suitable families
to host, as legal guardians, children from outside
the UK to give them a caring and happy family
environment when away from school in term-time.
2) Carefully
vet and run appropriate checks
with the relevant Government agencies and police to
ensure that the children would be in a totally safe
environment whilst with the guardian families.
3) Interview
in depth each potential guardian
family. This is to ensure that they are
suitable, from a social and cultural aspect,
to care for the individual overseas student(s) in
question.
4) Issue
clear guidelines
to parents, children and guardians outlining their
responsibilities.
5)
Act as a central contact point
for children, parents, guardians and the school.
6)
Constantly monitor guardian families
to ensure the children are always receiving the best
of care.
We visit every
prospective guardian family to make sure that their
house, grounds and family
environment is suitable for a child coming to school in
the UK for the first time. We choose families who will
support the needs of your child and who will take
real interest in his or her progress and welfare.
The guardian family
should treat your child as part of their own family,
including him or her in all their normal activities and
outings. Guardians and their children will share in
your child’s interests, providing a caring base and a
home-from-home.
In our experience, many friendships
are formed between overseas children, their guardians
and their children. These often last
well beyond the child’s schooldays and university
education.
Whilst your child is with one of our
guardian families, Collegiate Guardians will
always be your main contact. We keep in constant touch
with you and the guardians to ensure that your child has
a happy and worry-free stay. Should any unforeseen
problems ever occur, we can assure you that
Collegiate Guardians will always be there to
support your child and the guardian family.
